The Design Process: designing a bespoke kitchen with Krantz Designs

27 June 2023The Design Process: designing a bespoke kitchen with Krantz Designs

The process of designing a bespoke kitchen is an exciting endeavour, and we’re thrilled to be embarking upon this journey with you.

Before our project managers step in and curate the manufacture and installation of your kitchen, our talented team of designers will work with you to develop stunning plans that combine practicality with your aesthetic vision.

A journey can’t begin if you don’t have a destination in mind, so we’ve laid out the steps you’ll take with our design team as we work towards creating a unique and functional space tailored to your requirements.

Step 1: A warm welcome

Visitors are welcome to visit the Krantz Designs Showroom at any time, but we encourage prospective clients to book an appointment so that we can arrange for one of our designers to show you around. Our designers will guide you through our showroom and talk you through our ethos, our product range, and our processes. They’ll ask you questions about your ideas and will show you examples of completed projects to give you an idea of the high standards you can expect.

Our Showroom is located in the Bailgate of Lincoln, just round the corner from Lincoln Cathedral. If you’re unable to visit us on site, we can provide a virtual tour via video call, or we can arrange a design consultation at your property.

Step 2: The design consultation

Before diving into the design process, it’s crucial that we establish your needs. We’ll arrange a consultation at your convenience and will visit your property to assess your space. During the design consultation, we’ll talk about your lifestyle, your cooking habits, storage requirements, and aesthetic preferences.

If a house is in the early stages of its construction, we can work from architectural drawings. One of our partners will undertake a full survey of the project and we’ll work with your builders and contractors to create your perfect kitchen from scratch.

Step 3: Setting a budget

Before we take to the drawing board, we’ll have an open discussion with you about your budget. Establishing a realistic budget is essential in ensuring that your bespoke kitchen project stays on track financially, and we ask that clients determine the total amount they wish to invest in the entire project, as well as the divided budget for expenditure on individual features, such as appliances, flooring, cabinets, etc.

The typical investment for a Krantz kitchen is in the region of £75,000 to £150,000 +VAT, but fees can vary drastically based on the scale of the project and your choice of materials and appliances.

For more detailed information on what attributes affect cost, read our ‘How much does a bespoke kitchen cost?’ blog here.

Step 4: The design presentation

Aside from the big reveal, the design presentation is the most exciting part of the design process! Our team will invite you to attend a private design presentation at our Bailgate showroom. Your designer will present our initial proposal for the project, using CGI images, plan drawings, and mood boards to allow you to fully visualise our ideas for your space. We’ll walk you through the options for fixtures and finishes, and we’ll discuss suitable appliances and flooring choices.

The design presentation is a collaborative brainstorming session, and your designer will work with you to tweak the proposal to tailor it to your preferences. We encourage clients to be overly critical during this stage. If there’s even the smallest thing that you’d like to change, our team will come up with alternative options. Through this rigorous process, we ensure that every finished project fits our client’s brief to the letter.

Step 5: Edits and revisions

Once the final amendments have been made, based on your feedback from the design presentation, we will invite you to review our modifications at a second design appointment. At this meeting, your designer will also provide a detailed and comprehensive quotation, letting you know exactly how your budget will be allocated.

Step 6: Signing your contract

When you’re ready for us to proceed with the project, we’ll deliver a full contract outlining our terms and conditions. An initial 40% deposit will be requested. Once your deposit has been paid, our team will move to the design implementation phase and our in house engineers and carpenters will begin to manufacture your components.

Specialist teams will work on creating your technical, lighting, plumbing, and electrical drawings, and we’ll begin to source the materials we need to bring your designs to life.

By adhering to this simple, six-stage plan, we ensure that the early design process is an exciting and stress-free experience. The design phase is incredibly important to us. Not only does it enable us to apply the full extent of our team’s creativity to develop beautiful designs for your space, it also allows us to lay the foundations for what will be a long-lasting relationship with our clients.

If you have any questions about the design phase, or you’d like to take the first step on your journey and book a showroom tour, please get in touch.
